Our
DVD and Video collection is divided into seven parts.
Six of these rotate among the 6 branch libraries ever two months.
At the end of a year each branch library has seen each part of the
six parts.
Collection seven is a group of videos that have been
"retired" from the rotating collection.
These are videos that don't circulate often enough to justify
keeping them in the rotating collections, but we want to make them
available to our patrons for a while longer.
Collection seven is kept at Metamora Branch Library .
Videos from collection can be requested and will be sent to your
branch library

Normally when you hear the word plant associated with a person,
you automatically thin “Plant Lady”. However, the Roanoke
Library has been blessed with a “Plant Gentlemen”! Ed Mosbach
has brought a philodendron, given to the Library during their
Open House in November 2002, back to beautiful life from a “near
comatose” state. Ed looked at the pathetic plant and
volunteered to repot it into a CLAY pot (the only good kind of
pot, you know) and to check on it periodically when he would
come into the library. Along with the repotting, he has
provided two jugs of rain water, one plain and on with plant
food mixed in, to water the plants. The philodendron is
thriving under his care! Ed also donated a spider plant to the
library that now hangs in the front southwest window. It has
prospered to the point of sprouting its own “babies”.
Violets are also a passion of Ed’s. He is able
to start them from a single leaf by putting a leaf into a
plastic bag along with a little dirt, and “blowing” the bag up
with the carbon dioxide exhale of his own breath. From the
magical beginning, lots of violet plants are now in his own home
and the home of staff members and volunteers in the Roanoke
Library.
We are grateful to Ed for his efforts in helping the
Roanoke Library become a little “greener”! |

I am not
like most writers that keep journals or diaries, but I like
putting words on paper. I have written many letters to friends
and family. While in Junior College, my English 101 teacher
required a short story for every class. He liked my stories,
and so did the other students. Their praise of my work
certainly gave me a good feeling. Many years later, a niece
married and for a wedding gift I wrote a little story book
telling of the adventures her mother and I shared as we were
growing up in our family.
When my granddaughter was old enough to read a story book, I
thought it would be fun to write her a book that she could hold
in her hands, and I wanted it to have pictures of her in the
book. Magic Adventure is the third book I have written
for her. When she turned eight, I knew she needed more to the
story. She loves (and most children love) adventure stories,
and I love history, so I joined the two genres together.
Children love pictures to go with any story. My friend,
Christine Sweeney, loves to paint things for children. When I
asked her to read my story, she immediately had the pictures she
wanted to paint com into her mind. I feel her pictures made the
book! |
