Our
DVD and Video collection is divided into seven parts.
Six of these rotate among the 6 branch libraries ever two months.
At the end of a year each branch library has seen each part of the
six parts.
Collection seven is a group of videos that have been
"retired" from the rotating collection.
These are videos that don't circulate often enough to justify
keeping them in the rotating collections, but we want to make them
available to our patrons for a while longer.
Collection seven is kept at Metamora Branch Library .
Videos from collection can be requested and will be sent to your
branch library To see a list of the videos in collection seven, click here |

IPDPL Summer Reading |
|
Mike Anderson, a folk performer and educator from Jacksonville, Illinois, recently entertained over 150 children and their parents at three parties held in Roanoke, Metamora, and Spring Bay to celebrate the completion of the Illinois Prairie District Public Library Summer Reading Program. He engaged each group through humorous storytelling and music, which included various instruments as diversified as a mountain dulcimer, banjo, jaw harp and nose flute. Along with a juggling demonstration, Mike also gave tips to enable the children to learn the craft themselves. 504 children at the six branches slayed summer boredom by joining the district’s “Midsummer Knight’s Read” theme to register for the program and 349 went on to complete the course. Each child who finished the program received a bag of goodies, McDonald’s coupon for a free sandwich, a Dairy Queen coupon for a free ice cream cone, a voucher to the Normal CornBelters game, and a chance to go to the ending party with Mike Anderson |
Genealogy Research @ your Library
Genealogy research is a popular and fascinating search for one’s family roots. In order to help people with this project, Illinois Prairie District Public Library offers a number of services.
The Metamora Branch has microfilm of the newspapers Woodford Sentinel, Metamora Herald and the Washburn Leader containing articles on births, marriages, and obituaries going back to 1887. There are also paper files with names of people with obituaries in these papers and the date, page, and column in which they appear.
Old plat books, community albums, and Woodford County History and Portrait and Biographical books are available for research in the library, but not for checkout.
Barbara Surratt, a genealogy teacher and researcher, offers assistance to patrons by prior appointment at the Metamora, Spring Bay, or Roanoke branches on Thursdays afternoons from 2:00 to 4:00. She will answer questions or assist with checking your family history using the numerous sources found via the internet. She will also provide the use of genealogy CD’s with military records, church records, census records, passenger and immigration lists, marriage indexes from several states, and other family history resource files.
For more information or to sign up for an appointment, call or stop in at the Metamora Branch (367-4594) at 208 E. Partridge Street or go to the Roanoke Branch (923-7686) at 123 E. Broad Street or the Spring Bay Branch (822-0444) at 411 Illinois Street. You also may e-mail at
