Guest Speaker for April - Kevin Stein

Fourth Poet Laureate (Emeritus) of Illinois (2003-2017)

In December 2003, the Governor of Illinois named Kevin Stein Illinois Poet Laureate, filling a position previously held by Howard Austin, Carl Sandburg, and Gwendolyn Brooks. In that capacity, Mr. Stein co-sponsored Illinois poetry competitions for Emerging Writers as well as grade, middle, and high school students. He also created the Poetry Now! project which donated funds to nearly 50 Illinois libraries for the purchase of poetry by Illinois writers.

Mr. Stein will speak on "Life After Laureate," about his adventures in life and poetry since ceding his position as the State Poet Laureate.
