Our annual Summer Reading Program has officially begun!  IPDPL offers three different summer reading challenges so readers can choose the challenge that best suits them:

  • Read to Me: for beginning and emerging readers (reading goal = 50 books)
  • Casual Readers: for busy readers without a lot of time (reading goal = 25 hours)
  • Avid Readers: for passionate readers who are all in (reading goal = 50 hours)

Peoria Poetry Club

Celebrating the spoken word!

The Peoria Poetry Club was founded on January 28th, 1941, and the first meeting was held at the Pere Marquette Hotel.  PPC offers glimpses of creative writing through poetry, participating in poetry workshops, and other creative programs presented by poets and others.  Attendees are invited to bring a favorite poem to share, or just come to listen and enjoy readings and recitations by others.

Meeting schedule:

  • 11:30 - 12:00 - Meet and greet time - Catch up with friends new and old!
  • 12:00 - Poetry Club Role Call - Anyone is welcome to share a poem!
  • 1:00 - Monthly Presentation 
The Peoria Poetry Club is free to attend and all are welcome!

 

Being Positive in Turbulent Times

In times of societal upheaval, poetry has often served as a powerful medium to capture the zeitgeist and give voice to the passions of the people.  Our program for May explores the parallels between the cultural and social movements of the 1960s and the present day.

Join writers Susan Grandt and Susan Sarver for a thought-provoking comparison of how poets have responded to the turbulent conditions of their eras.   From the civil rights struggles and political unrest of the 1960s to the ongoing battles for social justice and the disruptive impact of new technologies today, discover how the rhythms and verses of poetry have the power to reflect and shape the cultural landscape.
